The call for a 12-month post-doctoral fellowship at the Università degli Studi dell’Aquila has just been published, within the project 'HUMAN' = ‘HUMAns in Nature. New Insights into Late Ancient Latin Texts in light of an Ecocritical Approach’ (PRIN 2022–PNRR, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research).
The project has the broad aim to apply an ecocritical approach to Late ancient Latin texts, viewed as repositories of ‘ecological’ views that can be displayed, in order to have them interact with contemporary debate on the ‘ecological crisis’.It involves two research–units, based in Milan (P.F. Moretti) and L’Aquila (S. Filosini).
The successful applicant’s research activity will be focused on Latin Christian texts narrating the creation of the world and commenting on it. The texts will be investigated in depth: language, literary stylization, contents. The purpose is to shed light on Christian ecological views, and on their peculiarities as stemming from different historical-religious milieux. The applicant’s activity will include involvement in the production of a digital tool: the corpus ‘DiAET’ (Digitally Annotated Ecological Texts), a digital collection of annotated texts, made available to the scientific community according to the principles of Open Science and aimed at spotting not only the main thematic aspects, but also the specific lexicon through which the human / nature relationships are constructed in late Latin literature.
A PhD in Classics or related field is required.
